He has tested more than half a hundred different types of combat aircrafts as follows: Su-17, Su-25, Su-27, MiG-23, MiG-29, Su30MKK, Su-25TM and MiG-29S. In addition, Sergey Bogdan performed test landing of Su-25UTG and Su-33 on the aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov”, including during active service in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans as well as in the Mediterranean Sea. “Landing on a deck is a complex element, which requires specific skills from a pilot. The landing is performed against the wind and at the full speed of the aircraft carrier. Touchdown speed is about 220-240 km/h. And that doesn`t count short runway strip and weather conditions”, - test-pilot pointed out.
As Sergey Bogdan noted that the object of his work was to get maximum number of remarks. “We have the following approach: the plain should be treated very critically, so first of all we look for disadvantages, not advantages each flight”, - he pointed out.
The test-pilot told about emergency situations, in which he got. “Height was 12 km, there was a powerful blow. Vibration was such that there the devices were not visible; the alarm “fire” was triggered. Among other things, a plane in the air is burnt for 14 seconds. In general, God helped, we landed. I looked at the plane; there were holes in engine and constructions, next to the one hole was pipeline with fuel, if it had burnt, it would have been a torch as the explosion.
In 2003, Sergey Bogdan began to prepare for tests of the newest Russian fifth-generation fighter PAK FA. He lifted its first prototype into the air from a factory airdrome in Komsomolsk-on-Amur on 29 November 2010. “I can tell that I had an opportunity to run the best fighter T-50. Decisions were implemented in the fighter, which should provide the advantage over existing analogues”, - test pilot pointed out.
According to Sergey Bogdan, he prepared for the flight minimum from 1,5 to 3 hours. The test-pilot pointed out, that each task differed from previous one. “It is necessary to do the analysis and make a competent report after the quality performed flight”, - he explained.
