On November 12 the Round Table «The role of new materials and technologies in creation of space engineering» devoted to the 25 anniversary of the successful space flight of the space-shuttle system "Energia-Buran" took place at the All-Russian scientific-research institute of aviation materials (VIAM).
Representatives of the Military-Industrial Commission under the RF Government, the State Duma, Roskosmos, Association of the state scientific centers of the Russian Federation, the state corporations, institutes of RAS, national research universities, leading scientists and experts of the aerospace industry took part in the event.
A documentary film about creation of the space-shuttle system "Energia-Buran" was shown to the participants before beginning of the Round Table.
«Creation of the space-shuttle system within the frames of the large-scale program “Energia-Buran” confirmed clearly the world leadership of our country in the space sector, the power of our industrial and defensive potential», – declared academician Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM at the opening of the event. «The successful implementation of this unique project became an outstanding international event and predestinated the solution of many scientific, technical and practical tasks», - he emphasized.
In his report, Evgeny Kablov told about interesting facts from the history of this outstanding project and about people, design bureaus and enterprises, which had made a powerful contribution to its implementation. Employees of VIAM, which took part in the ISS «Energia-Buran» were mentioned in his report as well. «It is necessary to remember those people, scientists and specialists who implemented this large-scale project important for all country», – he emphasized and reminded that 1200 enterprises, 70 ministries and departments took part in implementation of this program. 16 billion rubles were spent during 18 years of laborious work.
The press conference of academician of RAS Evgeny Kablov, Director General of VIAM on the subject: «Significance of new materials for transition of the Russian economics to the new technological mode» took place prior to the beginning of the Round Table.
Let's remind that the first and last space flight of ISS «Energia-Buran» under the pilotless regime was made on November 15, 1988. The All-Union, nowadays the All-Russian scientific-research institute of aviation materials made a significant contribution to implementation of courageous innovative decisions of designers of this project.
Recently VIAM issued the book «Armor for Buran. Materials and technologies of VIAM for ISS «Energia-Buran» devoted to the history of creation of new materials for this project. Earlier unknown interesting facts concerning implementation of this project were included into this book.
