On August 27, 2013 the meeting of experts of the institute with representatives of the German company "Airbus Operations GmbH" (ETEC R&T Overall Physical Design) took place at the All-Russian institute of aviation materials (VIAM). The future cooperation in the field of researches and production technologies of composite materials, quality control methods and developments related to the use of titanium and aluminum in metallic structures of flying vehicles were negotiated.
Jens Gralfs, Vice President R&T OPD Architecture and Lars Fiedler, Senior Manager R&T Fuselage Structure participated from the side of the German company.
VIAM was represented by Vladislav Antipov and Larisa Chursova, deputy directors, Alexey Lutsenko, head of Testing Center, Nadezhda Nochovnaya, Alexander Raskutin and Roman Vakhromov, heads of laboratories and Vitalyi Shestov, engineer.
Airbus representatives made a presentation about the company and described possible trends of cooperation with VIAM in the field of research and manufacture of composite materials: operations with GLARE; surface treatment metal foils; an increase in elastic modulus of fibrous laminates; optimization of structure measurement methods; assessment of safe damage tolerance; net and bionic structures; advantages provided by 3D reinforcement; improvement of production technologies by automation of RTM methods; lay-out with the use thermoplastic materials and welding; development of processes for quality control (accelerated NDT for CERF structures, NDT of CERF monolithic parts).
In their turn, experts of VIAM presented to the guests their newest developments of titanium and aluminum alloys.
Then, the partnership in the field of application technologies of titanium and aluminum alloys in metal structures of flying vehicles was discussed during negotiations. Some possible directions of collaboration between VIAM and «Airbus Operations GmbH» were reflected in the Protocol drawn up following the results of the meeting.
