On May 28th the delegation of the National Research Center «Kurchatov Institute» visited the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).
During this visit the NRC «Kurchatov Institute» representatives learned about the VIAM’s main business lines and the latest inventions in development of the new generation materials. The guests were able to see the abilities of the research, development and production base in manufacturing of products for aircraft and other branches of industry.
The delegation also learned about the production of permanent magnets and high-purity super alloys, protective coatings for gas-turbine engines, polymer composite materials and binders, ceramic composite materials and high-nitrogen steels, etc.
The guests were able to have a look at the Institute’s capacities in additive technologies, for instance, in manufacturing of metal-powder compositions and production of third-level parts by selective laser melting for aircraft and space engineering. Remarkably, in the field of additive technologies VIAM is the only Russian enterprise with a full innovative cycle of additive manufacturing – from an idea and design engineering to industrial-scale production and product supply.
During the visit the parties discussed the issues of further cooperation aimed at scientific and technological integration for realization of the most important national projects including the implementation of additive technologies.
