On March 10th Valery Nikolayevich Falkov, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation visited the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).
During this visit he got an overview of the research, development and production capacities and solutions of VIAM in the development of new generation materials. В
Evgeny Nikolaevich Kablov, the Director General of VIAM introduced to the Minister the main activities of the Institute, its current work, perspectives of development and financial and economical rates; he also conveyed the strategic directions of development of materials and processing technologies for the period up to 2030. “Today VIAM is the largest center of materials science in Russia performing fundamental and applied researches. We are developing knowledge-based industries for manufacturing new generation materials, half products and unique processing equipment.” - The VIAM Director General stated.
The minister’s special interested has been attracted to a full cycle of additive production of 3rd level details, which has no analogues in our country. Samples of parts of aviation and space technology, created by selective laser melting have been demonstrated to Valery Falkov.
Moreover, he paid attention to the VIAM developments in polymer, ceramic and metallic composite materials which are required in aircraft and other branches of industry. Valery Falkov also got an overview of the VIAM competences in casting of single-crystal blades for gas-turbine units and engines as well as electron-beam welding and laser-hybrid welding.
During the meeting both heads of VIAM and Ministry of Science and Higher Education discussed the promising directions of cooperation in the field of materials and process technologies of a new generation.
