On February 24th the head designate of the Republic of Mordovia Artem Alexeevich Zdunov visited the Russian Federation the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).
During the visit he got acquainted with the scientific and production base of the Institute including the laboratories and low-tonnage units producing items for aviation and other branches of industry. The main lines of activity and the latest developments of the Institute in metallic and non-metallic materials and coatings as well as technological processes and equipment were introduced to the head of the region.
For instance he had a look at the research and manufacturing complexes of commercial production of heat-resistant alloys’ cast bar stock, heat treatment, ion-plasma coatings and casting of single-crystal blades for GTE and GTU.
The guest was highly interested in the full cycle additive production organized at VIAM which has no comparable counterparts in Russia. The samples of aerospace engineering parts produced by the selective laser melting and the developments in this field were presented to Artem Zdunov.
“Additive manufacturing allows increasing the productive capacity by more than 30 times, the maximum material efficiency up to 0,98, reducing the structures’ weight to 50% by means of using the topology optimization”, - Evgeny Nikolaevich Kablov, the VIAM Director General and the Academician of RAS emphasized.
It is also necessary to add that during this visit Evgeny Kablov and Artem Zdunov discussed the issues of cooperation.
