By an order of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) has been granted with a status of a leading scientific organization. The corresponding decision was made based on results of the assessment and monitoring of the efficiency of the activities of the scientific facilities which perform various research and development, design and experimental and technological civil application works. According to the assessment criteria the Institute got the highest 1^st category.     

The assessment of activity of the scientific organizations is obligatory and is made at least once in five years. It is made based on a comprehensive expert analysis of the results of activity of a scientific facility. This information is supplied to a federal executive body which is in charge of this scientific facility.
