JSC “Power Machines” in cooperation with the leading aerospace enterprise have completed the first stage of tests of the ignition system of GTE-170 high-capacity gas turbine.  

For the trials by additive technologies there was manufactured a burner device including a figurine-shaped large “diagonal swirler” part, that was produced by the VIAM specialists as well as ignition system elements (ignition exciter, spark plugs, wires). During the trials the tension was applied to the ignition exciter, the length of the wires, throttle orifices diameters on the ignition gas supply line were changed as well. Altogether more than 380 startups have been made.

As a result, the characterization of the running ignition exciter and the definition of the stable ignition area of the ignition exciter have been made as well as the recommendations on refinement of the ignition exciter.    

At the second stage the main attention will be focused at the endurance testing (it is planned to make more than 1000 startups) and manufacturing of the first set of the GTE-170 pilot model; for these purposes the VIAM specialists plan to manufacture and supply 8 “diagonal swirler” parts in 2021.
