On October 7th, 2020 the representative of the “Fair Russia” and the parliamentary leader of the “Fair Russia” in the State Duma Sergey M. Mironov visited the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).

During his visit the politician got acquainted with the scientific and production capacities of the Institute including the laboratories and the low-tonnage production facilities manufacturing the products for aviation and other branches of industry. Sergey Mironov was told about the main directions of activity and latest inventions in the field of metallic and non-metallic materials, coatings and technological processes and equipment.

Moreover, the abilities of the Institute in additive technologies were demonstrated to the guest as well. The samples of parts for aero-space industry produced by the selective laser melting were shown to Sergey Mironov as well as a report on the developments in this sphere was made. Remarkably that VIAM is the only Russian facility in this field having the full cycle of additive manufacturing – from an idea and designing to industry-scale manufacturing and supply of the products.      

The chairman of the “Fair Russia” party also got acquainted with the production of permanent magnets and high-purity heat-resistant alloys, VIAM skills in casting of single-crystal blades for gas-turbine engines and units as well as electron-beam and hybrid melting of the materials.

As Sergey Mironov has noted the scientific center and the production facility are unique as without the VIAM’s developments neither aviation nor rocket technique will operate. “The most advanced technologies are concentrated here, but I was most impressed by the people here, - he underlined, - There are a lot of talented young people here who are making really breakthrough things. Not all things I have seen here can be talked about but I am sure that it is the future of the world industry”.  

Speaking about the VIAM team he mentioned that these people were professionals caring about their common goal, homeland industry and science. Sergey Mironov said: “Such people and such facilities should be supported on the governmental level”.    

The VIAM Director General, the Academician of RAS Evgeny N. Kablov in his turn thanked the politician for his visit and noted that “Sergey Mikhailovich has always supported and is supporting the national science and defense industry”. In his opinion it is very important for the young VIAM employees that a politician of such a level pays attention to what is their professional interest.
