The All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) took part in the latest stage of the “Otkroy#Mosprom” project organized by the Department of the Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow.
“Otkroy#Mosprom” is a new city-wide project for introduction of the Moscow industry. The program includes free tours of the industrial facilities, thematic lectures, master classes and special readings. In 2019 more than 8000 people took part in this project. That year there were conducted more than 340 tours of 30 industrial facilities and 5 industrial museums of Moscow.
Within the framework of this project students visited the VIAM museum where they were told about the stages of foundation and development of the aviation materials science, the inventions of the institute scientists that found their application in legendary aerospace engineering products – the Ilyushin Il-2 ground-attack aircraft, the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 fighter aircraft, the Antonov An-124 Ruslan wide-bodied transport aircraft, the Buran spaceplane, the Saturn AL-31 vectored-thrust engine, etc.
They also got to know many interesting facts about the VIAM history, and got acquainted with the main areas of activities and achievements of the Institute. Moreover, the participants of this tour had a look on the exhibition display where there are shown various components of aviation and space engineering produced from the VIAM materials.
