Swirlers of combustion chamber flame tube head of the PD-14 aero-engine will be mass-produced in the JSC “Center of Additive Technologies” of the state corporation “Rostec”. This decision was signed on June 25th, 2020 between the FSUE “VIAM”, JSC “UEC-Aviadvigatel”, JSC "UEC-Perm Engines" and JSC “TsAT”.
Swirler for PD-14 is the first Russian part produced by additive technology which has been implemented into the structure of an aero-engine. This part was manufactured in 2015 by the VIAM specialists together with their colleagues from JSC “UEC-Aviadvigatel”. In November of 2015 the PD-14 engine equipped with a set of VIAM-produced swirlers made its first flight as a part of a flying laboratory IL-76. Nowadays all PD-14 engines are equipped with these swirlers (more than 700 parts have been supplied), a full set of reference documentation has been developed concerning all stages of the production cycle: production of metal powder composition, synthesis of parts, gasostatic and thermal processing and post processing.
Evgeny N. Kablov, the VIAM Director General and the Academician of RAS has pointed out that “cooperation with the enterprises of JSC “ODK” resulted in powerful scientific and technological basis that allows as applicable to high-thrust engine PD-35, helicopter engine VK-650V, next-generation helicopter engine to speak about the ambitious implementation of additive technologies into manufacturing of combustion chamber parts, low and high pressure turbines and nozzle guide vanes”.
It is necessary to add that JSC “TsAT” has been established on the basis of the United Engine Corporation of State Corporation “Rostec” as a unique integrator production of parts using the additive technologies.
