On December 3, 2018, the Russian-Cuban Scientific and Technical workshop on issues of corrosion, ageing and biodeterioration was held at the Cienfuegos Center for Climatic Researches (Centro de Estudios Ambientales de Cienfuegos, CEAC, the Republic of Cuba). The All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM), the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and the Cienfuegos Center for Climatic Researches acted as organizations of the workshop.
In the course of the event, the Russian and Cuban experts discussed the issues of climatic and biological resistance of materials, specifics of climatic effect climate on changing ecosystems, as well as joint work in the field of corrosion, aging and biodeterioration.
The representatives of VIAM made reports. Sergey Skripachev spoke about the implementation of the scientific component of the Russian-Cuban project on creation of joint climate test station. Mikhail Daskovsky reported on the main stages of the organizational component of this project. Tatyana Bobyreva made a report on the biodegradation of materials in natural conditions.
During the visit of the Center for Environmental Research, the representatives of VIAM got acquainted with the infrastructure, scientific activities and the latest achievements of the center. In addition, the parties discussed the future plan of joint research work.
It should be added that VIAM and the Cienfuegos Center for Climatic Researches signed a cooperation agreement, under which the organizations would cooperate on the establishment of a joint Russian-Cuban climate test station in the territory of the Republic of Cuba.
