On April 12, 2017, employees of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) laid flowers to the bust of Yuri Gagarin on the Cosmonauts Alley on the annual anniversary of the first human`s flight to space.

Since the first days of organization of works on production of space engineering, VIAM as the leading materials science center has actively participated in these works.  The institute has performed more than 120 thematic works on development of new materials and technological processes.

VIAM was awarded the Order of October Revolution (1982) for development of materials for aerospace engineering. More than 70 employees of the institute were awarded with the State Prizes, Prizes of the Government of USSR, Lenin`s Komsomol Prizes, orders and medals.
