On January 27, 2017, a delegation of JSC “Russian Railways” (RZD in Russian), headed by Valentin A. Gapanovich, senior vice-president of innovative development – chief engineer of the company visited the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).

In the course of the visit, the guest got acquainted with the main activity and achievements of VIAM in the field of production of materials and technologies of new generation.

The representatives of “RZD” highly appreciated the modern infrastructure of the institute. In particular, they paid special attention to organized additive manufacturing of full cycle, including production of charge preforms and powder compositions, development of 3D-models of parts and technologies of laser synthesis, hot isostatic pressing and heat treatment.

As Academician of RAS, Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM pointed out: “additive technologies will fully allow implementing the basic principles of production of materials and technologies of new generation”.

Valentin Gapanovich also paid great attention to polymer composite materials (PCM), developed at VIAM.

“Today our developments of PCM are very in demand in many fields of industry and they exceed foreign counterparts by their characteristics”, - Leader of VIAM pointed out.

Besides, representatives of RZD became interested in aluminum alloys of new generation for welded constructions.

It should be noted, that the parties discussed prospects for cooperation.
