Recently, European scientific and industrial chamber has published preliminary data on Russian scientific and research organizations for the annual World Research Institutions Ranking, WRIR – 2015. About 16 thousand scientific and research organizations received invitations to participate in the rating last year.
It should be noted, that the ranking WRIR provides an assessment of their activities in the fields of mathematics, biotechnologies, medicine, physics, Earth sciences, materials sciences and chemistry, social and engineering sciences as well as nanotechnologies.
An assessment of scientific activity is made in three levels in accordance with world standards:
- Level “A” corresponds to “research activity of high quality” (categories from A to AAA, where the last is the highest category);
- Level “B” corresponds to “good quality of researches” (categories from B to BBB+);
- Level “C” corresponds to “qualitative scientific activity” (categories from C to CCC+, where C is the lowest category).
It is remarkably, that there are more than 400 scientific organizations of the Russian Federation in the rating, among them about 76 organizations correspond to the level “A”, 18 organizations have acquired “AA” rating, and 3 organizations have “AA+” rating.
As a result of conducted survey, the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) of the following area “Chemistry and materials science” has acquired “AA” rating (high level of research activity of high quality).
It should be noted, that according to the WRIR rating, VIAM got high estimate among domestic scientific organizations, which are engaged in developments in the field of materials sciences.

European scientific and industrial chamber was established in July 1992 and registered in Europe as a non-profit, nonpolitical association, aimed at strengthening international scientific, cultural and economic ties. ESIC actively collaborates with leading educational, scientific and industrial centers, European chambers of commerce and industry, associations of small and medium-sized industries. In the Russian Federation and CIS countries, ESIC operates under the international agreements and strengthens cooperation on key areas, defined by these agreements.
Organizations, included into the rating, are issued special certificates, conforming appropriate level and category.
