On December, 23, 2015 a General Meeting of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) was held, at which the work of the institute and its branches was summed up for the current year and also perspectives and tasks for 2016 were considered.
Academician of RAS Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM made a detailed report on that subject.
In particular, he spoke about the concrete scientific works, carried out in the interests of aviation industry and other national economic sectors, the volumes of the institute`s output products and provided services, and the close cooperation of science and production.
According to Evgeny Kablov, the brightest example of such cooperation is the work on development of advanced aviation engine PD-14, in which employees of VIAM actively participated.
Evgeny Kablov pointed out, that “PD-14 is absolutely competitive engine, because it fully complies with the requirements of chapter 14 (ICAO) for noise level, emission standards. Russia really demonstrated its ability to develop a full-sized gas turbine engine. If a state has such capacities, it relates to leading machine-building powers. It causes a sense of pride”, - he declared.
Besides, Leader of VIAM reported on financial and economic indicators of the institute, which continue to show strong growth each year.
In his report, Evgeny Kablov also spoke about a multistage system of personal training at the institute, which included holding of a contest “Materials scientists of the future”, study for a master`s degree and a postgraduate program at VIAM. According to him, the average age was 62,5 years at VIAM 18 years ago, then as now it is about 42 years.
Besides, Director General of VIAM touched upon the questions of energy saving and implementation of energy efficiency programs of the institute, technical re-equipment, capital construction and repair, as well as a subject of publication activity of the employees. In this regard, an important event was development of the database of the best Russian scientific magazines RSCI, placed on the platform of Web of Science for all Russian scientific community. “It is remarkable, that this list includes our two magazines: “Aviation materials and technologies” and “Proceedings of VIAM”, - Evgeny Kablov pointed out.

The speaker informed the attendees about the conferences held by the institute, the participation of VIAM`s specialists in exhibitions, publishing activities and he also marked the best tutors following the results of the year and employees, who had successfully defended the candidate dissertations.
Evgeny Kablov also replied to the questions from the audience concerning, in particular, economic circumstances in the country and future plans for the transformation of the institute.
At the end of the meeting, Director General of VIAM expressed his gratitude to the employees of the institute for their hard work in the outgoing year, called for further improvement and congratulated on the upcoming New Year`s holidays.
