On September, 11, 2015 the conference titled "Polymer composite materials of new generation for civil industrial fields" was held at the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM). This event was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of Prof., Cand. of Sc. (Tech) Boris V. Perov.
Polymer composite materials have a wide range of use in many civil fields of Russian industry. In that context the conference on this subject is an actual event, thanks to which specialists of scientific and industrial organizations had the opportunity to discuss a broad array of issues on development and application of PCM in housing and industrial building, electrical engineering, shipbuilding.
Cand. of Sc. (Tech) Dmitry I. Kogan, head of scientific bureau “Production technologies of polymer composite materials of new generation” opened the conference.
In his presentation he emphasized the important role of composite materials, the most demanded resources of modern industrial production. “You are all well aware that the subprogram on production of composite materials and articles made therefrom is now under way in the course of the state program "Industrial development and enhancing its competitiveness”. The task has been set by the national's leadership with due regard for implementation of this subprogram to bring the volume of polymer composite materials production to 120 billion rubles by the year 2020”. - Dmitry Kogan reported. He also pointed out, that currently the global market volume of composite materials is estimated at 70 billion euros.
Then Doctor of Sc. (Tech) Aleftina P. Petrova, chief research scientist of VIAM shared her personal memories about Boris Perov and told about his life's journey.
“Boris Perov began his career at VIAM in 1953 as a laboratory engineer, but eventually worked his way up to Deputy Director General. In a short time he became a mature researcher capable of independently resolving important scientific and technical issues", - Aleftina Petrova pointed out.
Dmitry Kogan reported about the role of Boris Perov in industry development of polymer composite materials.
In particular, he informed that Boris Perov developed a method for orientation of plexiglass through junction drawing at temperature higher than softening temperature allowing to develop new advanced materials without changes in chemical composition. Besides the following new directions: strengthening of thermoplastics by their reinforcing, development of noncombustible sheet and film decorative materials were established and headed by Boris Perov. “As the result of implementation of such work, new materials VVP-1, VVP-1m, SNP-S, decorative vinyl chloride plastic were developed and categorized, and these materials got great application in industry",- Dmitry Kogan pointed out.
According to him, the scientist took an active part in development and organization of production of heat-protection materials for the spacecraft “Buran”.
It is noteworthy, that by the decision of the organizational committee of the conference Alfred M. Suleymanov was given a book titled “Tendencies and benchmarks of innovative development of Russia” of Academician of RAS, Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM for the best report.
Summarizing the results of the conference, its participants expressed gratitude to the leadership of VIAM for excellent organization and holding of the event. In their opinion the presented reports arouse great interest thanks to scientific novelty and practical significance. Besides, many participants noted that regular organization of seminars and conferences on polymer composite materials at the premises of industrial enterprises and sectoral research institutes had a great significance for development of this industry in the country.
The decision was made after the discussion.

Nataliya P. Prorokova (G. A. Krestov Institute of Solution Chemistry of RAS) expressed her opinion: “What struck me most was how seriously your institute treated the organization of the conference; the representatives of VIAM contacted me by phone several times, refined details. I won`t hide, that the attitude of the employees of VIAM towards their work attracts me. Not for the first time I have been here, therefore I can confidently say that the level of organization of scientific conferences has risen at the institute. I happened to cooperate with VIAM earlier. In particular, co-author of the report was Academician of RAS Vyacheslav M. Buznik, with whom I spoke today.”
Anatoly N. Lugovoy (LLC “Biysky factory of glass fiber plastics”) expressed his view: “The conference is organized at a decent level, and it demonstrates wide experience of VIAM in this field. I have already had a chance to cooperate with your institute earlier: it happened so that Oleg V. Startsev, who works in the branch of VIAM – GCTC now, taught in Barnaul and we collaborated closely with him in the field of development of composite materials and study of their properties. And we have even developed several methods. Moreover, we tested carbon fibers, developed by VIAM in the Biysky factory of glass fiber plastics, doing it by the method of buckling.
