On July 16, 2015, Academician of RAS Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM), has visited Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, where he had a meeting with Rustem Z. Khamitov, the head of the Republic.
During the meeting, Evgeny Kablov reported on implementation of the works carried out as a part of the agreement signed between Bashkortostan and VIAM. According to him, cooperation of the Institute with enterprises, scientific and educational institutions of the Republic develops now very effectively.
As Rustem Khamitov pointed out “VIAM is a bearer of the most modern technologies, the most important competences in the field of metal sciences, structural materials and aviation materials. Today all of the above is very important for this country”.
As the results of the meeting, a cooperation agreement has been signed between VIAM and Ufa State Aviation Technical University (USATU). The document stipulates an interaction in the field of learning and teaching, scientific, personnel and informative support of professional education, as well as in scientific, research and innovative activities. In particular, the cooperation will cover development of casting technologies of new advanced alloys, organization of pilot production, foundation of a complex center to design functional parts, organization of educational centers and laboratories on the territory of the Republic.
Also in the course of the event, a Memorandum on cooperation and interaction between VIAM, Ufa State Aviation Technical University (USATU), Institute for Metals Superplasticity Problems of Russian Academy of Sciences (IMSP RAS) and Ufa Engine Industrial Association (UMPO) has been signed.
Within the frame of the Memorandum, the parties agreed on cooperation to establish a joint Center of advanced casting and additive technologies on the basis of USATU. This center should provide development of relevant engineering solutions in the field of foundry engineering, materials science and additive technologies as applied to gas turbine building and aviation industry.
Besides, the document covers cooperation in scientific, educational and innovative activities. In particular, training and retraining of top-qualification personnel, scientific and technical expertise, and also foundation of educational departments to train in the field of special steels and alloys and advanced technologies for production of billets for machine-building factories on the base of UMPO, USATU and IMSP RAS was agreed.
“Today`s agreement is a very serious step forward, Evgeny Kablov informed. We join the efforts of one of the leading engine plants of this country – UMPO, and also USATU, Institute for Metals Superplasticity Problems and VIAM. It is important, that we have defined the form of interaction. The most optimal one is the form of consortium”.
As the head of VIAM declared, “We should not just write reports. We need to do the work with a specific result, which allows demonstration of our technological and engineering ability to solve the issues corresponding to the world level of science development.
According to Evgeny Kablov, in this agreement the parties noted a necessity to create a center for casting technology of gas turbine engine blades. “Many people don`t know, that blades work in the engine at temperatures, which are by 400-500 ?C above the melting temperature of that material from which they were produces. Actually, the blades should melt down, but they work due to the fact, that they have a very complex structure,” he pointed out. “That is why the ability to cast such blades is a characteristic feature of the highest level of the machine building industry throughout the entire world. UMPO is in the front line of mastering this technology”.
FOR REFERENCE
OJSC Ufa Engine Industrial Association (UMPO) is an innovative enterprise, dealing with development, production, after-sales service and repair of aviation gas turbine engines, turbojet engines, production and repair of helicopter equipment units, production of equipment for oil and gas industry. The enterprise was founded in 1925. More than 20 thousand people work at the Association.
Ufa State Aviation Technical University is a large educational, scientific and innovative complex with strong scientific schools allowing education of skilled personnel of all levels: bachelors, specialists, masters, candidates and doctors of science. It consists of 7 faculties of full-time education, Institute of economics and management, extramural faculty at UMPO, 5 branches in some cities of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Regional interindustry center of advanced training and retraining of specialists, Bashkir regional center of new information technologies, Educational-certifying center of principles of personal and social safety, Republican center of information protection, editorial and publishing complex. The scientific-research sector of the University consists of 6 scientific-research institutes, Interacademic laboratory of engineering systems of medico-ecological researches, more than 50 laboratories.
Institute for Metals Superplasticity Problems of Russian Academy of Sciences (IMSP RAS) was established in 1985 by the decision of the Council of Ministers of USSR on the basis of Special design and technology bureau “Tantal” and the General engineering and metal science department of Ufa aviation institute. The institute is a part of the Power engineering, machine building, mechanics and control procedures department of RAS, which carries out the scientific and methodological guidance of the Institute.
The institute carries out fundamental and applied researches in the field of materials science, condensed-matter physics and mechanics of deformable solids directed to the development of new structural and functional materials with high properties, including nanostructured materials.
