On July 16, 2015, the II All-Russia scientific and technical conference "Fundamental and applied research of materials corrosion and aging under climatic conditions: problems and prospects" has begun its work at the branch of VIAM – G.V. Akimov Gelendzhik climatic testing center (GCTC).

When opening the plenary meeting, Cand. of Sc. (Tech.) Alexey N. Lutsenko, head of the Testing center of VIAM, welcomed the participants and wished them successful work. "We are very pleased that today representatives of leading enterprises of aviation industry, universities, institutes of Russian Academy of Sciences, research institutes and state research centers have gathered in this hall," he said.

Alexey Lutsenko noted that VIAM pays much attention to the corrosion deterioration and resistance of materials to this factor. "Today, this acute problem faces not only the aviation industry but also the whole economics of the country causing huge losses," he said.

According to him, to solve this problem VIAM develops a comprehensive protection system for structures made of metallic, polymer composite materials and their compounds, protection and repair technologies and conducts climatic and mycological tests. "Due to the own climatic testing centers situated in Moscow and Gelendzhik, VIAM has an opportunity to conduct researches in various climatic zones that facilitate the effective solution of problems facing the institute," said Alexey Lutsenko.

Then, Alexey Lyashenko, deputy director of the Aviation Industry department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, greeted the attendees. On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia he thanked VIAM for organization the conference and expressed the hope that "the next year there will also meet experts to discuss scientific and practical achievements in the field of natural and accelerated testing of materials and structures". "I wish you to bring this process to a new level, which is so necessary and demanded by our industry", he emphasized. In his report Alexey Lyashenko said that "GCTC of VIAM is a unique Russian center, whose services are demanded by key sectors of the domestic industry". According to him, the Center is a unique research complex, which can successfully solve a wide range of tasks due to its perfect structure, stuff and equipment.

Then, the participants were acquainted themselves with a variety of oral and poster presentations.

At the end of the first day of the scientific forum, an excursion on the GCTC territory was organized for the participants. Employees of the Centre have showed the guests the laboratories of GCTC and the exposition of materials and structural elements subjected to tests under natural climatic conditions.

Alexander L. Aseev:

- I’m very impressed by all that has been demonstrated today. Probably for the first time in my life I have encountered such a precise, scrupulous and punctilious processing of the results of the work done. Of course, the technical equipment of the Center is really of the world class. But most of all I was surprised by the number of young people who work here. Most importantly, the young professionals are well trained and perfect proficient in appropriate matters.

Alexander A. Berlin:

- Of course, first of all I was struck dumb that the team here is so young and, as I think, with a huge potential. Secondly, I want to note that VIAM has done a huge work to fit up the Centre with the most modern equipment. For all the above Evgeny Kablov, Director General of VIAM, must be thanked. In my opinion, all conditions for the effective work are accumulated there.
