On June 30, 2015, Cand. of Sc. (Tech.) Olga G. Ospennikova, head of scientific-research bureau «Heat-resistant cast and wrought alloys and steels, protective coatings for GTE components» of VIAM has taken part in a meeting entitled “Tasks, objects and terms of modernization of the domestic gas turbine engine GTE-110 of OJSC “NPO “Saturn”. The event was held at the All-Russian Thermal Engineering Institute (Russian abbreviation JSC “VTI”).
In the course of the meeting, the attendees became acquainted with the progress of work concerning the modernization of GTE-110. It should be noted that in 2013 an expert commission had made a feasibility study of a project on development of a modernized gas turbine engine GTE-110M on the request of JSC “Inter RAO”, JSC “RUSNANO”, JSC “NPO “Saturn” and the Center of innovative energy technologies. The main aims of the project are assurance of the operable state, an improvement of environmental and technical-and-economic indexes of GTE-110 and industrial gas turbine units (IPGU) on its basis. It is expected to accomplish the planned work in 2017.
During the meeting, Olga Ospennikova has presented a report "Materials of a new generation and resource-saving technologies of their processing for industrial gas turbine units." In particular, she noted that "The use of materials of a new generation and technologies of their processing allows us to develop powerful IGTU with an enhanced efficiency up to 60-65%, to increase their service life up to 60 000-100 000 hours and to provide an average reduction of production costs up to 5-7 times. "
In addition, Olga Ospennikova gave some examples of the developed in VIAM unique materials and technologies (melting of superalloys of the new generation, casting of blades with directional and single-crystal structure, isothermal forging in air of hard-to-deform heat-resistant alloys, additive technology, etc.). On their base, the Institute implements specific projects for the benefit of the aviation industry and other branches.
Speaking about additive technologies, she said that VIAM had organized a closed-cycle additive manufacturing of parts of complex engineering systems, which "will reduce the cost of domestic powders down to the cost level of foreign powders” to solve the problem of an acute shortage of domestic metal powders." In addition, Olga Ospennikova announced a proposal of the Institute to create an inter-branch engineering center "Powder compositions and additive technologies" on the base of VIAM with participation of leading scientific, educational and industrial institutions.
The head of scientific-research bureau of VIAM has also emphasized the need to develop methods and technologies of nondestructive testing of parts produced using additive technologies.
FOR REFERENCE
GTE-110 is a gas turbine engine for power plants, the first Russian high-power gas turbine. Single-shaft gas turbines of GTD-110 series are intended for the use in gas turbine- and combined cycle power plants GTE-110, IGTU -170 and IGTU -325 of 110, 170 and 325 MW in capacity, respectively, to generate electrical and heat energy.
The engine was developed within the framework of the federal target program "Fuel and energy" in accordance with the requirements of RAO UES (United Energy Systems of Russia) for the Russian power system. Development and production – by JSC "NPO" Saturn".
