On May 27-30, 2015, Nadezhda A. Nochovnaya and Anna V. Novak, representatives of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM), have taken part in the XIII International conference named as “Titanium-2015 in CIS”. The event was held in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan) and was devoted to the 50th anniversary of “Ust-Kamenogorsk titanium magnesium plant” JSC, one of the largest producers of titanium in the world.
Within these days, the participants of the scientific forum have shared experience with their colleagues in the field of production, processing and industrial use of titanium. In particular, Nadezhda Nochovnaya acted as the Chairman of the second plenary meeting of the conference and presented to the participants a report titled as “The possibility to use hot isostatic pressing for structure modification of a new intermetallic gamma-phase titanium alloy”.
In turn, Anna Novak told about the effectiveness of microadditions of rare-earth elements to improve mechanical properties of intermetallic titanium alloys.
Within a framework of the conference, the representatives of VIAM on the delegation of honored guests visited the museum of “Ust-Kamenogorsk titanium and magnesium plant” JSC (UKTMP) and smelter shops carrying out vacuum-arc and electron beam melting of large-sized titanium ingots.
It should be noted, that the annual organizer of the conference is CJSC “Interstate association Titan”. This year more than 200 specialists from the CIS countries, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, China and Poland have taken part in the event.
