On May 26, 2015, Academician of RAS, Evgeny Kablov, Director General of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM), has taken part in the work of the All-Russian scientific and technical conference of young scientists and specialists named as “New solutions and technologies in gas-turbine building”. The event is being held on May 26-28 at I.P. Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motor Development (CIAM) and is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of CIAM.
In the course of the plenary meeting, Evgeny Kablov made the report “Materials and manufacturing technologies of new generation”. In particular, he reported about strategic directions of development of materials and technologies and their processing for the period up to 2030 and about development and application of materials of the new generation in modern gas turbine engines. “At present, nickel and titanium alloys (32% and 30% respectively) play a key role in the GTE structures, but by the year 2025 the portion of polymer composite materials and intermetallic compounds will increase abruptly; that allows to reduce the weight of engine structures up to 40%” - Evgeny Kablov pointed out.
According to the head of VIAM, the most promising direction of the modern aviation engine building is additive technologies. In this connection, Evgeny Kablov informed the audience about the full cycle additive production created by the Institute. Thanks to the above, a part of the advanced aircraft engine PD-14 was produced at VIAM by the additive technology using a domestic metal-powder composition. “We could produce the front combustion chamber swirler, which fully met to the requirements of the design documentation.” - he pointed out and added “On average, this production cycle of the swirler is 10 times less than that in case of application of investment casting technology”.
The head of VIAM also told about the training and development system of the science, engineering and pedagogic personnel, which was created at the Institute. “We are one of the first scientific institutions in Russia which has the right to implement the educational activities according to the Master’s degree programs. Education at VIAM isn`t only the deep theoretical knowledge in the field of materials science but also practical experience on the modern equipment operation using unique scientific developments of the Institute” - Evgeny Kablov summarized.
It should be noted, that more than 300 young scientists, specialists of enterprises and institutions of the aerospace industry, students and post-graduates from more than 50 specialized universities, research institutes and institutions of Moscow, Perm, Kazan, Voronezh, Samara, ST. Petersburg, Omsk, Rybinsk, Yekaterinburg and other Russian cities took part in the event. Some issues in the field of development of new technologies for production of advanced aviation engines and ground-based gas turbine units were considered within the framework of the scientific forum.
It should be added, that in the course of the conference the young scientists and specialists of VIAM made their reports.
FOR REFERENCE
I.P. Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motor Development is the only research institution in the country carrying out comprehensive research and scientific support in the field of aircraft engine building starting from the basic researches of physical processes up to the joint work with development design offices for creation, modernization and certification of new engines including ground-based gas turbine units. All domestic aircraft engines were created with the direct participations of the institute and subjected to final adjustment on its stands.
