On May 19, 2015, Cand. of Sc. (Tech.) Vladislav V. Antipov, head of scientific-research bureau «Titanium, magnesium, beryllium and aluminium alloys» of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM), visited Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works (JSC KUMZ). On the delegation of honored guests, he took part in the solemn ceremony dedicated to the launch of the first phase of a new rolling complex.
A scientific conference where Vladislav Antipov made a presentation was held as part of the festivities. In his speach, he noted that KUMZ is now the base for commissioning of aluminum alloys developed by VIAM. "More than 35 grades of aluminum alloys applied in advanced products intended for aerospace, shipbuilding and mechanical engineering, as well as for the nuclear industry were introduced into mass production by cooperation of our enterprises," - said the representative of VIAM.
According to him, today KUMZ is one of the most dynamically developing domestic companies of metallurgical sector. Management of the enterprise understands the need for technical re-equipment and modernization of production and for application of new materials in the industry. "So, a modern unit for heat treatment of aluminum alloy plates was launched in 2010, and now the first phase of ultramodern rolling complex, which has no analogues in Russia and Europe, is put into operation", - said Vladislav Antipov.
"The launching of the new equipment allows to improve significantly the competitiveness of the domestic industry, to penetrate into new international markets and thereby to increase the prestige of the domestic metallurgy", - he said.
FOR REFERENCE
Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works (KUMZ) - one of the core enterprises of the city of Kamensk-Uralsky, Sverdlovsk Region. KUMZ was established as a works of special metallurgy under the Ministry of Aviation Industry to provide aircraft building with semi-finished products from aluminum and magnesium alloys manufactured with the use of plastic working.
At present, the works produces ingots, flat rolled semis, profiles, welded and extruded pipes, drilling pipes, rods, wire, forgings of different shapes, wheels for cars and trucks, heat exchangers for refrigerators, painted profiles and structures and corrugated sheets from aluminum and aluminum alloys.
In June 1978, the Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for its outstanding achievements in the production development and commissioning of new technology.
