On April 30, 2015, Maxim L. Shevchenko, one of the brilliant and most known Russian journalists, expert on ethno-cultural and religious policies visited the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).
During the visit, he was acquainted with the research base of VIAM and talked with the staff of the Institute. Academician Evgeny Kablov, General Director, told the guest about the main activities of the Institute, unique developments and prospects of VIAM. The known journalist noted "that the scale of tasks solved by the Institute and the level of training of engineers are very impressive and confirm the strategic importance of this Materials Research Centre for Russia."
In addition, Maxim Shevchenko visited the Museum of VIAM, where he was informed about some interesting historical facts of the domestic materials science, as well as specific projects undertaken for the benefit of the aviation industry and other industrial sectors.
On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, Evgeny Kablov and Maxim Shevchenko have laid flowers to the monument of VIAM employees who died during the Great Patriotic War and observed a minute of silence for their memory.
Communication with Maxim Shevchenko was continued in frame of the creative project "Synkletos at VIAM" and was focused on the role and place of Russia in the modern geopolitical space. Opening the event, Evgeny Kablov thanked the guest for the opportunity to communicate and discuss topical international issues. Head of VIAM noted that this meeting is of particular importance in view of the coming 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. "It's no secret that an intense campaign to minimize the contribution of our country to the defeat of fascism was deployed currently", - he emphasized. Evgeny Kablov said that the most part of young people abroad have no idea about the real events taken place on the fronts of the World War II, about relationship between the Soviet and Allied troops who took part in the battles. "It's very painful to realize such situation, - said the head of VIAM, - and the most unpleasant is the fact that there is a number of writers and producers, who distort the heroic truth about the war in their works of art, are among domestic figures of culture and art."
In turn, Maxim Shevchenko said that "it was a great honor for him to be in such a legendary institute -"a ganglion" of the domestic science and industry, which has been creating materials for the benefit of our Motherland more than 80 years."
The main problem the attendees were interested in was the situation in Ukraine.
Therefore, in his speech, Maxim Shevchenko gave political analysis of past events and shared his impressions of traveling to the east of Ukraine. In particular, he spoke about the causes of Maidan, political confrontation in the country and expressed his opinion on the role of various local oligarchic groups in the unleashing the fratricidal civil war on the territory of Donbas and Lugansk regions.
The well-known journalist also touched upon the Great Patriotic War. In his opinion, it is very essential to declassify many documents and to make serious efforts to further investigation of the events of that time. "Surely, for such large-scaled and comprehensive analysis it would be reasonably to create a special institute for the history of the XX century and to involve historians more widely", - he has emphasized.
In conclusion, Maxim Shevchenko presented his book “Through the muddy times” to Evgeny Kablov. In turn, the General Director of VIAM presented to the guest the books «Armor for Buran - Materials and technologies of VIAM for "Energiya-Buran" ISS» and “Tendencies and milestones of the innovative development of Russia” issued under his editorship.
