On December 1, 2014, Victor S. Kosourov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture has visited VIAM.

Academician of RAS Evgeny N. Kablov General, Director of VIAM, introduced Victor Kosourov with the main activities of the Institute, including the development of new generation materials, and informed about strategic directions of development of materials and technologies of their processing for the period up to 2030.

In the course of the visit, the guest got acquainted with the scientific laboratories of VIAM and with small-scale high-tech manufacturing plants. Specialists of the Institute introduced Victor Kosourov with the latest developments in the field of materials science and demonstrated him unique equipment in function.

Victor Kosourov has highly appreciated the research and production potential of the Institute, the level of modern equipment and highly qualified personnel. He has also emphasized the systematic approach of VIAM in responding to most significant national tasks.

Victor S. Kosourov is the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture. In 1971, he graduated from the V.V. Kuibyshev Novosibirsk Institute of Civil Engineering on specialty "Manufacture of construction products and structures", and in 1982 he graduated from Academy of Social Sciences of the Central Committee of Communist Party, and in 2009 - Finance Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation.

In 1994, he became the head of JSC "Rusinprom". In 1998 - 1999, he was a chairman of the committee on budget, tax, financial and credit policy of the Regional Council. In 2000-2003, he worked in the Novosibirsk Regional Administration as the First Deputy Chief. In 2003, he was elected to the State Duma of the fourth convocation on the list of "United Russia" political party. In the Duma he was a deputy chairman of the committee on local self-government matters.

In March 2005, he was appointed as an auditor of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation on the introduction of the State Duma. In November 2010, he became a senator in the Federation Council.
