On November 21, 2014 the delegation of the All-Russian scientific-research institute of aviation materials headed by the General Director of VIAM, Academician of RAS, Professor Evgeny Nicolaevich Kablov visited the Bejing institute of aviation materials (BIAM).

In the course of the visit the guests from Moscow familiarized themselves with research laboratories and production potentialities of the institute. In particular, the center on a development and manufacture of cast heat-resistant nickel and titanium alloys, the laboratory of aeronautical glazing materials, rubber compounds and sealants laboratory, the center on joining and metallic structures forming were inspected.

Evgeny Kablov appreciated a scientific potential of laboratories, equipped with the high-tech equipment. At the same time he noted the system approach in development of scientific directions and infrastructure of BIAM, that enabled the institute to become the materials science center of international level.

Besides, negotiations with the General Director of BIAM, professor Dai Shenglong were held, where possible directions of cooperation with VIAM were considered. Particularly, the sides considered mutual works in the field of coatings application on gas turbine blades, development of shaped investment casting of titanium alloys, but also technologies for manufacture of metallic powder compositions for metallurgy, high-energy processes and additive technologies.    

At the end of the official part of the visit, the Russian delegation was in the park of BIAM, where Evgeny Kablov and Ge Zigan, the director of the Beijing Institute of Aviation Materials planted a Friendship Tree and placed a memorial plate during celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of BIAM 8 years ago. Some years later representatives of VIAM and BIAM performed a ceremonial of watering this tree.

Dai Shenlong pointed out: “We became convinced that the Friendship Tree is on the increase with new branches and strong roots keep it in the ground; it is growing and expanding.  The proverb is that Friendship is a tree, which should be watered”.
