On the 1-st of August the day of the century of the starting one of the most large-scaled armed conflicts in the history of mankind – World War I, representatives of Young Scientists Council and specialists of VIAM participated in the official opening of the monument to the heroes of World War I at the Poklnnaya Hill. Vladimir Lepshсhikov, Elena Vershinina, Ivan Soltyk, Kirill Zakharov, Eugeniya Lakhina, Maksim Razmakhov laid flowers to the monument.
The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir V.Putin stated during the opening ceremony, that in the world history there many exsamples of «what a terrible price an unwillingness to hear each other turns, the other`s rights and freedoms and lawful interests violation in favor of own interests and ambitions».
He stressed that «the monument to the warriors of World War I is not only a tribute to their great exploits, this is a warning that the world is fragile, a reminder to all of us that we are obliged to take care of it, remember that the most valuable on the earth is a peaceful, quiet and stable life.
It should be noted that VIAM sent 1 million rubles for the monument erection. These funds were transferred in connection with the application of the executive director of the Russian military-historical society A.V.Nazarov to the authority of the institute to support this project. The authors of the monument are sculptors А. Kovalchuk, P.Lyubimov, V. Usupov, architectors – M. Korsi, S. Shlenkina.
