On May 30, 2014 a meeting of participants of «Materials scientist of the future» competition was hosted by Saransk polytechnic secondary school. The competition was held for graduates from the 11^th classes of educational institutions.

Nikolay V. Bychkov, Minister of Education of the Republic of Mordovia Alexey M. Smirnov, chairman of the Board of young scientists and specialists, deputy chief of the Testing center of  VIAM, school youth, their parents, teachers, scientists, representatives of the public and independent enterprise "Technology Park – Mordovia" took part in the meeting.

The meeting was opened by Nikolay Bychkov, who told to the attendees about the meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council of the independent enterprise "Technology Park – Mordovia" held by academician of RAS Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of the All-Russian scientific-research institute of aviation materials (VIAM), chairman of the Council. He noted that in the technology park work many «young and promising scientists and specialists, and the key to their success became the way correctly chosen by them, diligence and desire of knowledge». Nikolay Bychkov thanked VIAM for the attention, which the institute devotes to rising generation and to the problem of engineering personnel training. 

In turn, Alexey Smirnov made his presentation and told about the main directions of work of VIAM, personnel policy of the institute, mentoring, system of experience transfer to young specialists and about advantages to winners of the competition.

During the speech, he declared «Mordovia devotes much attention to the development of high technologies, and I hope that for the solution of this task a sufficient quantity of highly skilled specialists, including those trained with the help of VIAM, will be educated». «Future luminaries of the domestic science can be revealed even in the course of their learning at school. If these children are really keen on science, it is necessary to do the utmost to help them to implement their talent in practice, to gain necessary skills, abilities and experience», – he noted and emphasized that «VIAM is ready to help with this work as we have such experience». In addition, the representative of the institute reminded that since 2013 similar competition is carried out in Moscow, and «Materials scientist of the future» was conducted in Mordovia for the first time.

Alexey Smirnov noted «the hi-tech future of Russia cannot be created without improvement of the social status and role of the engineer and the general designer». In his opinion, it is possible to bring up the future scientists with the use of specific historical examples of implementation of large-scale projects, detailed consideration of contribution of designers and engineers in the domestic science. «I hope, our today's meeting will give the next impulse for the development of the scientific potential of the Republic of Mordovia and Russia as a whole», – he has emphasized. 

In conclusion of the meeting, Alexey Smirnov handed over diplomas to winners of the competition and wished them further successes in education.

«Materials scientist of the future» competition is carried out by the Ministry of Education of Mordovia and VIAM for the purpose of improvement of scientific, innovative and personnel capacity of the republic, involvement of youth into high-tech industries of the domestic industry. Selection of senior schoolchildren who possess scientific and technical mentality and are interested in materials science is carried out during the competition. Participants of the competition were graduates from the 11^th classes of comprehensive secondary schools of the republic.
