On April 24th the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (“VIAM”) employees cleaned up the vicinity of the monument to the soldiers of the 7th People’s Militia Division of the Baumansky district of Moscow.
They also paid tribute to the soldiers and laid flowers at the memorial site.
The monument is located at the 242nd km of the Minsk highway where the defensive line ran in October, 1941. Here the soldiers of the Baumansky district had been holding the enemies for a week, thus not letting the Wehrmacht develop the attack on the capital.
The 7th Division was formed on 3-7 of July in 1941. More than 12,000 people had been inducted into the Division including the VIAM and the “Aerogeopribor” plant employees, higher-education teaching personnel and students of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Moscow State Institute of Chemical Mechanical Engineering, the Moscow State Institute of Engineering and Economics named after Ordzhonikidze as well as representatives of many other facilities of the district.
