Representatives of VIAM took part in the 21st International Forum and Exhibition for Materials Testing "TestXpo" which traditionally was hold in Ulm, Germany from October 15 to October 17, 2012. The event manager was Zwick Roell Group which is world-widely known as the leading manufacturer of equipment for physicomechanical tests of different materials.
In the course of the Forum, VIAM representatives Vladimir Erasov, Mikhail Gorbovets and Elena Kotova have got acquainted with recent trends and the newest solutions in the field of testing of different materials and improvement of their quality in different industry branches and also exchanged experience with foreign colleagues.
As Mikhail Gorbovets stated, «different types and ways of tests and the obtained results allow to increase safety of operation of different machines and mechanisms, to prevent failures and accidents». «Forecasting of service life of items is one of the major tasks in mechanical engineering», - he emphasized.
Dr. Jan Stephan Roell, the chairman of the board of directors of Zwick Roell made the first speech on October 15 at the commencement meeting. In his turn, Mr. Ivo Goenner, the mayor of Ulm reported that more than 500 people from different countries participated in the Forum and noted the importance of similar events for innovative development of Germany and other countries of the world.
The Russian-speaking section was opened by Mr. Jörg Gastrok, the chief representative of Zwick Roell in the CIS. Scientists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, Kharkov and other cities took part in the work of this section. Reports were made by representatives of VIAM, SPBGPU, MISIS, and Zwick representative office in Russia.
Problems concerning revision of old test standards and development of new standards, compliances of up-to-date test software packages with new research tasks, and also metrological support of test equipment were considered at this section.
Vladimir Erasov presented the report «Definition of bearing characteristics in the course of mechanical tests» at the section meeting. He reported about advantages of the techniques and equipment for bearing tests developed by VIAM. Vladimir Erasov also told briefly about the main directions of VIAM activity; he noted that a large number of up-to-date equipment is available at the Testing Center and the staff has a wide experience on the work with test equipment of different manufacturers.
«I am very glad that now there is a big Russian-speaking section at "TestXpo" forum where we have an opportunity to tell about actual problems in the field of tests, to exchange opinions and to open the new horizons of joint cooperation», - he summarized.
At the end of this day Jörg Gastrok accompanied VIAM delegation at the exhibition and production shops to acquaint guests from Moscow with the last achievements of Zwick and its partners.
On October 16 representatives of VIAM familiarized themselves more detailed with the exhibition, visited Zwick’ test laboratory, discussed new trends in test and measurement equipment and perspective developments in this area with Zwick’ experts. Representatives of Zwick demonstrated operation of different types of equipment and pointed out the readiness of the company to produce equipment for VIAM.
Representatives of VIAM also took part in ceremony of delivery of 10 000 euros to the Petersburg state university of communications which is the owner of the oldest in the world test machine produced by Zwick in 1876.
On October 17, the last day of the Forum, the stuff of the representative office of Zwick Roell in Russia and the CIS organized a visit to the German technical museum in Munich where representatives of VIAM have familiarized themselves with the history of development of engineering in Germany. «A special attention was paid to development of aviation engineering, starting from the first airplanes of brothers Right, and up to the Solair 1 airplane powered by solar energy», - Elena Kotova reported.
