NEW MATERIALS FOR INNOVATIVE AIRCRAFT ENGINES
The signing ceremony of the Cooperation Concept between the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) and United Engine Corporation (UEC) was held on May 13, 2015.
According to the signed Concept, the interaction between UEC and VIAM in the development, research, production and commercialization of materials of a new generation and resource-saving technologies will be carried out at various stages of the life cycle of aircraft engines.
Therefore, in frame of promising products design, specialists of VIAM will develop new materials and coatings to achieve the desired properties of final parts and determine the research methodology of the new materials. As a part of the development work, the scientists will create a technology to produce parts from these new materials and provide equipment for their manufacturing.
Application of the new equipment at the stage of commercial production and development of repair technologies will also be carried out in a close cooperation of UEC and VIAM experts.
As Academician Evgeny Kablov, Director General of VIAM stated in this regard, "I am very pleased that the knowledge and the work of the specialists of our Institute are in great demand of one of our major customers". "We work under real projects - helicopters, advanced engine PD-14, for which a number of new materials, including composites, were developed, and for the first time in Russia a part was produced with the use of additive technology. It allows us to make the transition from the conventional processes of manufacture and repair of intricate-shaped components to the technologies of the next generation. In the future, we will have a lot of work to lay a groundwork for several technological directions, and I hope that together we will successfully solve strategic objectives the corporation and the country is faced to",- said Evgeny Kablov.
"Enterprises of UEC have been cooperating successfully with VIAM for many years to solve the major problems the Russian aviation industry is faced to. The agreement signed today is a logical sequence of this cooperation - said Vladislav E. Masalov, General Director of "UEC", - We attach a great importance to the innovative activity, considering it as an important factor in the development of the corporation, and we are ready to invest in the adoption of advanced technologies. "
"We know the facilities that the Institute can provide as the largest national materials science center – a good experimental, research and production base. I am convinced that with the help of specialists of VIAM, UEC will significantly improve the competitiveness of its products", - emphasized Vladislav Masalov.
The joint stock company "United Engine Corporation" is an integrated structure, which produces engines for aviation, space programs, power plants of various capacities for production of electric and thermal energy, gas pumping and ship gas turbine units. UEC unites more than 85% of the assets of the branch, is a part of the "Rostec" Corporation.
