Academician Jores I. Alfyorov, vice-president of RAS, the Nobel Prize winner, visited VIAM on March 21, 2013.
During the visit he examined the work of research centers, research and production and experimental and technological complexes, laboratories and low-tonnage production bays of VIAM.
Academician Evgeny N. Kablov, General Director of VIAM told to the guest about creation of materials of the new generation, accumulated experience and future scope of activities of the institute and also about strategic trends in development of materials and technologies for their production till 2030.
Employees of VIAM showed Jores Alfyorov the work of the newest equipment, unique developments and technologies created by VIAM, told about their scientific activities.
After that Jores Alfyorov presented a lecture for employees of VIAM on the subject «Booming technologies of the second half of the XX century and their present-day role» devoted to scientific researches and works in the field of atomic energy, creation of jet engines, space and laser technologies, up-to-date information technologies and history of development of the major domestic scientific areas.
He noted that exactly the science has to become the basis of economic and innovative development of Russia. «Education and the system of training of engineering personnel have to play the leading role in this process», – declared Jores Alfyorov.
The world-famous scientist emphasized: «My acquaintance with VIAM which had made a huge contribution to the development not only of the domestic aerospace industry, but also other industry branches, gives to hope for a forthcoming solution of the most difficult scientific and technological tasks». «A huge share of youth which works and studies at VIAM today and an effective transmission system of knowledge and experience to the future scientists which have a splendid opportunity to improve their theoretical knowledge and to conduct scientific researches on modern hi-tech equipment made a special impression on me», – told Jores Alfyorov.
