On April 12^th, 2019 at the anniversary of the first human’s flight to space the employees of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (“VIAM”) laid floral tributes to the portrait sculpture of Yury Gagarin on the Cosmonauts Alley.

The VIAM as a leading material-science research center played an active role in arrangement of works for development of the space engineering since the very first days. The Institute has performed more than 120 subject works for development of the new materials and operating processes. For the development of the materials for the aerospace engineering the VIAM has been awarded with the Order of the October Revolution (1982). More than 70 Institute employees have been awarded with State Prize, the USSR State Prizes, the Lenin Komsomol Prizes, orders and medals.
