On May 9, 2017, the employees of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) took part in the Immortal Regiment march in Moscow.

The participants of the march passed along Leningradsky Prospect, Tverskaya Street, Okhotny Ryad, Manejnaya and Red Squares, they carried portraits of their relatives, who fought at the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

This year the memorial event “Immortal Regiment” has become the most massive in Moscow for all years. According to the organizers` estimates, there were about 850 thousand people in the march.

The Immortal Regiment is non-governmental initiative. For the first time, the memorial event was held in Tomsk on May 9, 2012. Six thousand citizens participated in the march, carrying about two thousand portraits of their warring relatives. Next year the event was held in 120 cities and in 2014 it became international action: 7 countries took part in the demonstration.

The purpose of the action is to preserve the memory of relatives-veterans of the Great Patriotic War in each family.
