On December, 15, 2015 Sergey M. Mironov, Chairman of the political Party “A Just Russia”, Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of RF visited the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).

He started his visit with laying down flowers at the Monument of VIAM`s employees, killed within the ranks of militias during the Great Patriotic War.

Then Sergey Mironov visited a museum of VIAM, where he got acquainted with the interesting historical facts of national materials science and with the implementation of specific projects in the interests of aerospace industry and others sectors of economy.

Besides, the guest familiarized himself with the high-tech low-tonnage manufacturing, where ingots from complex alloyed and intermetallic titanium alloys were produced. Sergey Mironov was also demonstrated the latest units to produce titanium ingots and induction furnace with cold crucible, allowing to produce shaped castings from titanium alloys, including gamma titanium aluminum. “The equipment allows developing new alloys and technologies of their production, applied in modern domestic aircraft and engine engineering”, - Head of laboratory Nadezhda Nochovnaya informed.

Besides, Head of the Party “A Just Russia” got acquainted with a scientific laboratory “Materials resistance and reliability of aircraft” named after S.I. Kishkina. He had a conversation with young scientists and specialists of the institute and estimated the work of modern testing equipment.

Then Sergey Mironov took part in the creative project “Synkletos at VIAM”, the theme of which was the role of science in the development of the state.

“I accepted an invitation to visit your institute with joy. I didn`t expect that there would be so many people and especially it`s pleasant to see a lot of young scientists here because this fact instills confidence, that our science has the future”, - the leader of Party “A Just Russia” declared.

He shared his personal attitude to what was going on at present in Russian science. “I am absolutely convinced that the worth funding of fundamental scientific researches is the direct duty of the state, if it cares about its future.” According to Sergey Mironov, representatives of scientific community are able to determine these breakthrough directions which are primarily in need of funding.

The Chairman of the Party “A Just Russia” criticized a reform of RAS. “Changes are necessary, nobody says that we don`t need to change anything, but I am absolutely convinced, that any changes in Russian Academy of Sciences should be made at the initiative of scientists and with their participants. It is nonsense, when government officials control science”, - Sergey Mironov declared.

Answering a question from the audience, Sergey Mironov said that the single voting day, held on September, 13, 2015 and the day of the 70^th anniversary of the victory in Great Patriotic War are the most important political events of the year.

He also told, that the Party “A Just Russia” doesn`t support the idea to raise the retirement age. According to him, all talks about the necessity to raise the retirement age are cynical in spite of increase of longevity of Russian. The guest pointed out, that we need to think about the possibilities for retired people to live worthily.

The politician also told about geology. He has taken a great interest since early childhood and he has dedicated an important part of his life to studying it. For many years he has gathered his famous collection of minerals, which counts more than fifteen hundred specimens. After retiring as the Chairman of the Federation Council he decided to donate this unique collection to V.I. Vernadsky State Geologic Museum. “It is wrong when the only one man owns these unique specimens and can admire them”, - he pointed out.  

Sergey Mironov told about another hobby – fishing. “I can say that I am passionate fisher. I like to sit with spinning, but unfortunately I don`t have enough time for it”, - he said.

At the end of the meeting, Academician of RAS Vyacheslav Buznik, Head of the laboratory of VIAM presented a book “Tendencies and landmarks of innovative development of Russia” of Academician of RAS Evgeny Kablov, Director General of VIAM to Sergey Mironov.  It is remarkable, that the idea to publish the book appeared after the visit of Sergey Mironov, when he had asked to prepare a digest of proposals of the institute in the various directions.

In turn, Cand. of Sc. (Tech.) Denis Grashchenkov, Head of scientific-research bureau “Nonmetallic materials, metallic composite materials” gave the guest  a book “Admiral Fyodor Ushakov – the saint righteous warrior”, which had been published with the support of VIAM on September. He also informed, that “This work and another 17 patriotic books were sent to 120 children`s homes, situated in different regions of Russia. “The books of native writers were bought and sent due to voluntary fund raising of the employees of the institute”, - Denis Grashchenkov pointed out.
