On November, 27, 2015 Academician of RAS, Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) reported at technologic seminar, which took place in LLC “Management Company “RUSNANO” and was dedicated to application of nanotechnologies in aircraft engineering.
Opening the meeting, Anatoly B. Chubais, Chairman of the board of Management Company “RUSNANO” emphasized the importance of nanotechnologies for the development of the Russian aviation industry and economics and noted the great experience of VIAM in this area. “VIAM – is the best team of materials scientists in this country, and Evgeny N. Kablov is one of the strongest leaders, scientists of world-wide reputation”, - Anatoly Chubais reported.
As was stated by Evgeny Kablov, “It is impossible to create something new without technological forecast, strategic direction for the development in the field of materials and technologies. In this regard, VIAM jointly with the institutes of RAS have developed the Strategic directions for development of materials and technologies of their processing for the period up to 2030, in which nanotechnologies and nanomaterials hold a special place.”
Evgeny Kablov pointed out that the principles for development of materials of new generation had been determined at VIAM. “We don`t speak about new materials, we speak about materials of new generation, which can’t be developed without fundamental researches, - he pointed out. It is very important to develop these materials, taking into account “green” technologies to avoid negative influence on environment.” “No less important issues are the implementation of full cycle of articles, and also adherence to the principle of continuity “material-technology-construction”, - the leader of VIAM added.
According to Evgeny Kablov, currently modification of polymer composite materials using nanosize particles intended to give them special properties is one of the perspective and fast-growing directions in development of modern materials. “Fulleroid nanoparticles: fullerenes, astralenes, nanotubes composed of 99,9 % of carbon are best suited for nanomodification of structural composites based on carbon reinforcing agents”, - Director General of VIAM reported.
Evgeny Kablov also pointed out, that “with the purpose of developing new generation of high deformability of polymer binders and modified nanoparticles, it is necessary to solve a number of issues concerning the qualification and description of nanoparticles, used for these binders.” According to him, the development of all-weather aviation, implementation of carbon composite materials, and also planes` equipment with modern electronic devices drew more attention to promote aviation safety and lightening promotion. “VIAM develops lightening protection systems based on carbon fiber fabrics and polymer binders, modified by carbon nanoparticles. In the course of research it has been established, that implementation of carbon nanomodifiers: fullerenes, astralenes, nanotubes into polymer matrix not only allows to increase transversal electrical conductivity between layers of carbon fiber fabrics, but also increase the number of directions of energy dissipation of electrical discharge”, - he clarified.
Evgeny Kablov concluded his statement by defining a number of tasks, which would promote further development of nanotechnologies in the country. “It is necessary to prepare a forecast of scientific and technological development of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies, including with the participation of state scientific centers; to provide for a scientific and technological component in the long term of RUSNANO, based on prospects for implementation of researches and developments; to work out strategic directions of development of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies for a long term; to implement a pilot project on forming the market of intellectual property in the field of nanomaterials on the basis of the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs of RUSNANO”, - Director General of VIAM declared.
Finally Anatoly Chubais expressed his gratitude to Evgeny Kablov for his interesting presentation and detailed answers to questions.
