On September, 29, 2015 Cand. of Sc. (Tech.) Valery I. Gromov, head of laboratory of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) took part in the conference “Metal science, technologies and application of high-strength steels and alloys”.
The development trends of structural steels and production technologies of rolled and molded articles in compliance with the requirements, imposed by different branches of industry on their quality and performance properties were discussed at the conference, held at I.P. Bardin Central Research Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy.
In the course of the conference, the representative of VIAM made a report devoted to “High-strength structural maraging steels for advanced articles of aircraft engineering”. In particular, he pointed out, that high-strength structural maraging steels VKS-170 and VKS-180, developed at VIAM, had unique combination of physical and mechanical properties. “Alongside with the high strength characteristics they have other properties as follows: high viscosity, plasticity, endurance strength, resistance to corrosion hydrogen cracking, brittle-fracture resistance, hot strength and low cold brittleness”, - Valery Gromov reported. “Above-noted properties of marging steels give possibilities to apply them in different fields of machine building and aviation engineering”.
