On August 26, 2015, in the course of the International Aviation and Space Show MAKS-2015, Academician of RAS, Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) has opened the conference “Digital and additive technologies for aviation industry complex”. VIAM and The National University of Science and Technology MISiS (NUST “MISiS”) were co-organizers of the event.
In his speech, Evgeny Kablov reminded about the message of Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, to the Federal Assembly, in which the Head of the State offered to realize the national technological initiative, in frame of which the implementation of large-scale state projects was considered. “To my mind, additive technologies of the new generation should be a dominant of the national technological initiative”, the leader of VIAM emphasized.
He also pointed out, that it is impossible to create and implement successful projects single-handedly. “For this purpose it is necessary to join efforts of scientific institutions, industrial enterprises and business into consortia”, he reported. According to him, collaboration between VIAM, Institute on Laser and Information Technologies (ILIT RAS) and Peter the Great Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) in development of additive technologies for production and repair of gas-turbine engine components can be considered as an example of such cooperation.
In his report, Evgeny Kablov also spoke about experience of VIAM on the development and application of additive technologies. “A closed-cycle additive production of components for complex technical systems was organized at VIAM to cover the acute shortage of powdered domestic alloys allowing the cost reduction of the domestic powders down to the level of foreign production”, Director General of the institute pointed out.
The Head of VIAM also reported that this year for the first time in Russia the front combustion chamber swirler of the advanced aircraft engine PD-14 was made by additive technology. "This work was done for the benefit of our industrial partner “Aviadvigatel” OJSC with the use of a fundamentally new additive technology providing a reduction in labour consumption and an improvement of metal utilization factor 10 times and 3-5 times, respectively," Evgeny Kablov has declared.
In the course of the conference, Cand. of Sc. (Tech), Olga G. Ospennikova, head of scientific-research bureau of VIAM, made a report. In particular, she spoke about researches of the structure and properties of synthesized materials produced from powders of heat-resistant nickel alloys by selective laser sintering.
