An interim step of full-scale tests of modern polymer composite materials (PCM) and structural components made of PCM held within the development program of the Center of the Collective Use “Climatic tests of VIAM” has been finished at G.V. Akimov Gelendzhik climatic testing center (a branch of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials).
Specialists of GCTC VIAM have to research a change of properties of these materials after a three-month outdoors exposure and on a special underwater stand in the water area of the Black Sea.
Cand. of Sc. (Physics & Math.) Valery Starstev, responsible official of this work, has pointed out “For the first time an influence of biofouling and marine environment on changing properties of PCM is estimated, a research of durability and corrosion damage degree of protective coatings is done, and also reliability and versatility of the underwater stand for tests in the water area of the Black Sea is checked”.
FOR REFERENCE
G.V. Akimov Gelendzhik climatic testing center is situated on the western coast of the Gelendzhik bay. The center has all necessary facilities for comprehensive researches to estimate reliability of a wide nomenclature of high-tech products.
GCTC VIAM is the only scientific climatic testing center in Russia, which performs complex tests of materials, structural components and articles as well as develops protective systems against an influence of corrosion, ageing and biodeteriorations arisen under coastal climatic conditions.
