On May 20, 2015, Cand. of Sc. (Tech.) Olga G. Ospennikova, head of scientific-research bureau «Heat-resistant cast and wrought alloys and steels, protective coatings for GTE components», VIAM, attended a scientific session of the Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ONIT RAS).
Academician Evgeny Velikhov, Academician-Secretary of RAS, has opened the event. He welcomed participants of the session and wished them fruitful work.
Then Olga Ospennikova made the report "Metal-powder compositions and additive technology of synthesis of complex components for gas turbine engines". She noted that "the majority of problems, which modern aviation engine building is faced to, can be solved by the additive technology – an innovative process of manufacture and repair of high quality intricate-shaped and unique parts at the lowest cost".
According to her, fine-dispersed metal powder compositions are used as the feedstock for the additive production; in this case, these compositions have to meet to a number of specific requirements. "First and foremost, sphericity, rigidly-limited particle size distribution providing high yield, high chemical homogeneity and lowered content of gas impurities should be ensured." – said Olga Ospennikova.
In her speech, she also spoke about experience of VIAM on creation and application of additive technologies. "In order to overcome the acute shortage of domestic metal powders, VIAM had organized the closed cycle of additive production of parts for complex engineering systems, which reduces costs of domestic powders down to the cost level of foreign powders", – emphasized Olga Ospennikova.
In addition, she reminded that this year, for the first time in Russia, a part of the advanced aviation engine PD-14 (front combustion chamber swirler) was produces at VIAM by additive technology using a domestic metal-powder composition. "This work has been done for our industrial partner “Aviadvigatel” OJSC with the use of a fundamentally new additive technology providing a reduction in labour consumption and an improvement of metal utilization factor 10 times and 3-5 times, respectively." – added Olga Ospennikova. She also informed that on May 27 VIAM hosts the International conference "Additive Technology: the Present and the Future".
FOR REFERENCE
At present, the Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies Division consists of 39 full members and 63 corresponding members of RAS. Eighteen research institutions, two of which are based on university research centers, are a part of the Division. In addition, ONIT RAS provides the scientific and methodological guidance for four institutions of regional scientific centers.
One of the main tasks of the Division is to develop proposals to change the state scientific-technical policy in the field of informatization and implementation of nanotechnology, to support and develop the existing basic research programs, to promote funding of basic researches made by institutes of the Division through the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and other public and private development funds.
