According to the results of the international rating Webometrics, the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) entered the top hundred Russian scientific organizations in the field of "Scientific institutions and centers" (Ranking Web of Research Centers). VIAM took the 46^th position among the 182 domestic institutions included into the final list. In this ranking of the best international scientific organizations, over 8000 of them were estimated, VIAM was conferred the 1434^th position.

It should be noted that about 80 percent of domestic research organizations included in the top hundred are the Institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In the course of rankings, which is one of the most reputable in the world and is hold by Cybermetrics group, the ranking algorithm of sites was built. In particular, such factors as the number of links from other sites, the total number of site pages, the number of full-text files placed on the site, the articles and their citations were taken into account. The rating was calculated on the based these of these data.

The research group Cybermetrics is a part of The Spanish National Research Council (in Spanish: Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient?ficas, CSIC). The results of the rating are published since 2004 twice a year. Methods and approaches to evaluate scientific organizations were developed for comparative studies of national systems of higher education by the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) founded in 2004 by the European Centre for Higher Education (UNESCO-CEPES) and the Institute for Higher Education Policy, Washington, DC. Ranking criteria are as follows: information volume, software support level and popularity of the websites under consideration.
