On April 14, 2015, the regular meeting of the creative project "Synkletos at VIAM" was held at the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials.

Captain First Rank Vladimir D. Ovchinnikov, the author of the book "Admiral Fyodor Ushakov - holy righteous warrior" was the guest of this event. He is one of the most competent modern domestic military historians specialized in the XVIII century, and his book is the most comprehensive biographical studies of the great naval commander.

During the event, he talked about his book, revealed some interesting facts from the life of Fyodor Ushakov and answered numerous questions of the attendees.

Academician Evgeny Kablov, Director General of VIAM, has opened the Synkletos. "It is symbolic that on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory we host the person who was closely connected with the defense of the Fatherland", - he said. According to the head of VIAM, it is highly important that such events dedicated to famous commanders and the most important historical events gave an impetus to the further study of our great history and warn attempts to falsify it. "To remember our history and to respect it is a sacred duty of each of us", - concluded Evgeny Kablov.

Then Vladimir Ovchinnikov took the floor and noted that "the personality of Fyodor Ushakov, which incorporates the best qualities of the Russian army is one of the brightest in the country's history, and his life was an example of selfless service to the Fatherland and spiritual asceticism."

As it was stated by the author, Fyodor Ushakov was the founder of Russian naval doctrine; for the first time in the history of the Russian Navy, he began to put ships for battles at the high seas. Fyodor Ushakov has made an impressive progress in strengthening the world position of Russia. "Ushakov won a double fame – as a Defender of the Fatherland and the holy righteous warrior canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church for his deep piety and Christian charity", - emphasized Vladimir Ovchinnikov.

An evidence of his genius was an unprecedented fact of the military history, when the fleet commanded by Fyodor Ushakov inferior to the enemy in strength twice had a hundred times lower losses in crew during the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791. "Without losing a single ship in battles, Ushakov damaged irreparably more than 50 vessels of the Turkish fleet and won for Russia the whole Black Sea region" - he said and added that "the Russian fleet commanded by Fyodor Ushakov did not suffer a single defeat!"

According to Vladimir Ovchinnikov, Admiral Ushakov was a man of honor; he considered his subordinates not just as performers but as colleagues, on the efforts and skills of which the success in battles was depended. "He created his famous Black Sea school, trained an entire generation of experienced flag officers, who formed the backbone of the Russian fleet. Just the traditions of his school were the background for such famous Russian naval commanders as Dmitry Senyavin, Mikhail Lazarev, Pavel Nakhimov, Vladimir Kornilov, Vladimir Istomin and others,"- he said.

In addition, Vladimir Ovchinnikov spoke about the stages of the life and work of Fyodor Ushakov, as well as about key events in the Russian history, in which the Admiral participated: trips of Russian ships and squadrons to the North and the Mediterranean Sea, the armed struggles on the Russian southern borders and the Black Sea, shipbuilding on the Don and in Kherson, annexation of Crimea to Russia.

In turn, Evgeny Kablov noted that "we live in the difficult, but interesting times, and such examples like Fyodor Ushakov must inspire in our people the faith in their country and strengthen the spirit of victory."

At the end of the meeting, Vladimir Ovchinnikov gave his book with an inscription and a dirk to Evgeny Kablov, and the head of VIAM presented the book "Armor for Buran" published under his editorship to the guest.

Vladimir D. Ovchinnikov was born on July 26, 1960, Gazimursky Zavod village of Chita region. In 1977, he graduated the boarding school № 2 in Rybinsk (Yaroslavl region) and entered the Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School. After graduation of the School in 1982, he continued to serve on nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet. In 1995, he was enlisted as a post-graduate student at the Institute of Military History under the RF Ministry of Defense, graduated it in 1998 then continued his service at the Institute. He was awarded with the degree of candidate of sciences (history) by the decision of the Dissertation Council of the Institute of Military History № 259/1 of December 9, 1998. He was awarded with a number of medals: "For Military Services," “70 years of Armed Forces of the USSR”, “300 years of the domestic fleet”, “200 years of the Ministry of Defense”, "For military valor" of the 2nd degree, "For service in the submarine forces", "For Distinction in the Military Service" of the 1st and 2nd degrees and "For Meritorious Service" of the third degree.
