On 6 February, 2015, an outstanding event happened in the history of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Materials. A solemn opening ceremony of the museum of VIAM was held on the threshold of the Day of Russian Science. Leadership and veterans of VIAM, representatives of the Council of young scientists and specialists, and distinguished guests of the institute took part in the event.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, academician of RAS, Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM pointed out: “Creation of the museum is an outstanding event for our famous institute”. “As you know the present and the future cannot exist without the past. Therefore endeavor to know one’s origins, solicitous attitude to own history, continuation of glorious traditions, established by outstanding scientists whose names were written by gold letters in the history of VIAM, and the memory of them is one of the main principles of work of our institute, which history is inseparably associated with development of the domestic aviation industry. And now we remember and hold sacred our history and those people, who brought a world-wide fame to VIAM”, - reported Evgeny Kablov. “It’s the most important now, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Victory Day, because impertinent attempts are being made to distort our history, rewrite it over again regardless of nude facts”, he pointed out.
Evgeny Kablov reported: “Our institute actively took part and helped chief designers to make original decisions and to create unique equipment, which was honor of the country and the nation”. Besides, the head of VIAM reminded: “The institute developed materials and technologies for front in the most difficult conditions, actively took part in formation of domestic jet gas-turbine aviation, rocket and space equipment, and nuclear industry of the country”. The head of VIAM also thanked everybody, who participated in creation of the museum. “I want to express my great gratitude to the Council of Veterans, engineers and senior research scientists for the efforts you have made”- he pointed out.
Then Evgeny Kablov and Alexander Sarkisov, chief designer, solemnly opened the museum by cutting a red ribbon.
In the course of the excursion the guests were informed about stages of formation of aviation materials science, creation of VIAM, its unique developments for aviation equipment, space, nuclear industry and many other fields. Besides, Evgeny Kablov mentioned some interesting facts from the history of VIAM such as: creation of the legendary ground-attack aircraft “IL-2” most widely used in the 2nd World War, contribution of the institute to creation of the monument “To conquerors of space”, restoration of sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman”, solution of difficult tasks for realization of the unique project “Energy-Buran”.
Alexander Sarkisov shared his impressions after visiting of the museum. “I am happy because I was there. When I look around, a thought doesn’t leave my mind, that VIAM created something homey, heartwarming and really dear. Thank You for this”. He also noted a special attitude of VIAM to intergenerational continuity and transfer to young people not only experience but also long-standing traditions of the institute.
In turn, Viktor N. Drozdenko, chief engineer of Ufa aggregate association “Hydraulics”, the leading expert of UEC, pointed out: “Today’s event confirms that VIAM does an -active goal-oriented work to keep historical truth. Particularly, it’s important on the eve of our Great Victory”.
