On November, 13, 2015 Denis V. Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation visited a branch of the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials – G.V. Akimov Gelendzhik Climatic Testing Center.
In the course of the visit, he got acquainted with possibilities of the Center, modern equipment and full-scale test stands. In particular, Head of Minpromtorg of Russia inspected samples of materials and structural components, exposed under the conditions of open atmospheric platform. He paid great attention to unique complexes as follows: vertical and horizontal stands for tests of oversize structurally similar samples and structural components.
As informed by Academician of RAS, Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM, those complexes had been developed according to the requirements specification of VIAM and manufactured in Switzerland. He pointed out, that “they allow performing tests of oversize structurally similar samples and structural components under the simultaneous influence of atmospheric parameters of seaside zone and mechanical loadings, simulating operation conditions.
Besides, Denis Manturov was demonstrated tests of a wing fragment from carbon fiber with integrated optical fiber sensors, mobile nondestructive testing laboratory based on automobile GAZ, composites of new generation for impulsive energetics, and also results of corrosion tests of automobile Lada, which had passed full-scale climatic tests at GCTC VIAM.
Evgeny Kablov also reported the Minister about the results of import substitution of foreign materials to domestic analogues for airplane MC-21 and application of composite materials in construction of rapidly erected arch bridges. Denis Manturov also inspected an atmospheric proof ground, a metrological station, a number of laboratories including joint laboratories of VIAM and S.P. Korolev Samara State Aerospace University (works in the issues of corrosion), VIAM and Bauman Moscow State Technical University (works in the issues of nondestructive testing), VIAM and Ogarev Mordovia State University (works in the issues of climatic tests of building materials).
In the course of the visit of GCTC, they paid great attention to the organization of the National network of climatic testing centers in Russia, which involves establishing 7 centers, 25 stations, situated in different climatic zones of the world, and also a pavilion for mycological tests. As Evgeny Kablov reported that, “Today VIAM carries out full-scale tests of samples including microbiological ones in 9 climatic zones and is working to establish a single database on climatic resistance of materials and constructions”. “So that, annual corrosion loss in the world is about 2,2 trillion dollars or 3,1 per cent of world GDP”, - he pointed out.
The Head of Minpromtorg noticed the young age of GCTC`s employees and highly estimated the high-technology equipment of the Center. He wished the employees of GCTC further success in their scientific work.
Denis Manturov also held a meeting on the introduction of materials of new generation into the domestic industry.
FOR REFERENCE
G.V. Akimov Gelendzhik Climatic Testing Center (GCTC VIAM) is the only scientific climatic testing center in Russia, which performs complex tests of materials, structural components and articles as well as develops protective systems against an influence of corrosion, ageing and biodeteriorations arisen under coastal climatic conditions. GCTC is a part of the Testing center of VIAM, which organizes and conducts researches, testing of materials including certification, arbitration and expert tests. Determination and assessment of all performance parameters of materials is carried out on the modern test and research base, complying with domestic and foreign standards.
