On November 6, 2014, the All-Russian scientific-research institute of aviation materials (VIAM) has hosted the conference named as «Advanced high-strength aluminum alloys for aerospace and nuclear engineering». The event has been timed to the 100th anniversary since the birth of Candidate of Science (Tech.) Ekaterina I. Kutaytseva.
Academician of RAS Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM, has opened the conference. He greeted guests and noted that «actually, Ekaterina Kutaytseva has created a basis for development of high-strength aluminum alloys in our country». According to Evgeny Kablov, V95, V96ts, V96ts-1 and V96ts-3 alloys developed with her direct participation have allowed to create not only unique aircraft, but also they were widely applied in space and nuclear equipment.
Also, the head of VIAM informed that Ekaterina Kutaytseva's relatives were invited to the conference: «It is pleasant that today there are her son, her daughter and granddaughters, who can tell us a lot of interesting of Ekaterina Kutaytseva's life». In addition, Evgeny Kablov said that an exposition devoted to this distinguished scientist would take a worthy place in the VIAM museum being under creation now.
In his turn, Vladimir B. Zaykovsky, Ekaterina Kutaytseva's son has thanked VIAM management for organization of the conference. «My mother treated VIAM with a big awe, she loved the institute and her work» — he told. «This event is another confirmation of the fact, that VIAM revere and remember people who have devoted their life to science» — Vladimir Zaykovsky has concluded.
Participants of the conference expressed their gratitude to VIAM management for an excellent organization of the event. In mutual opinion, the presented reports have caused great interest due to their scientific novelty and practical importance. Besides, many attendees noted that the regular carrying out of such thematic conferences is of great importance for development of applied researches in the field of high-strength aluminum alloys.
