Innovations for engine building
Specialists of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) have produced a part of the domestic advanced aircraft engine PD-14 for the first time in Russia by additive technology using a domestic metal-powder composition. This work was carried out in the interests of the industrial partner Aviadvigatel OJSC.
"We were able to make a swirl of combustion chamber front mechanism, which fully meets the requirements of the designer documentation", - said General Director of VIAM, Academician Evgeny Kablov. According to him, the part has already been included in the design documentation and gone into production. "The production cycle for such swirls is in average 10 times less than by the investment casting technology ", - said Evgeny Kablov.
It is remarkable that VIAM achievements in the field of additive technologies were demonstrated to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin on the February 10, 2015, who stressed the need for the additive technology development for industry and coordination of this work.
Advanced engines (PD-14) developed at Aviadvigatel OJSC are based on the PS-12 and belongs to the family of promising civil turbofan bypass engines with a thrust from 9 to 18 tons on takeoff.
