On September 25, 2014 in All-Russian scientific–research institute of aviation materials (VIAM) a scientific conference «Technologies of fusion welding of new structural materials» took place. It was devoted to 110- anniversary from the birth-day of the founder of welding and brazing laboratory of VIAM, Doctor of Technical Sciences Mikhail V. Poplavko-Mikhaylov.
Deputy General Director of VIAM, Candidate of Technical Sciences Olga G. Ospennikova opened the conference. She greeted participants and informed, that "about one hundred specialists from 37 different scientific-research institutes, manufacturing enterprises and other organizations take part in the event".
Olga Ospennikova reminded, that «all labor and creative activity of Mikhail Poplavko-Mikhaylov was connected with VIAM, where he realized his activity at first as a chief of welding and brazing laboratory, but then as a scientific leader of welding department».
According to her, the developed under the leadership of Mikhail Poplavko-Mikhaylov technologies and materials for welding of high-strength structural and stainless steels, titanium, nickel and aluminum alloys allowed to make a considerable contribution to a creation of articles of aviation and rocket-space technology.
She also noted, that «the task of the new generation of specialists in the field of welding and brazing constitutes in development of the school, created by Mikhail Poplavko-Mikhaylov and mastering of effective technologies of structural materials connection for articles of new generation».
Then Olga Ospennikova made the report «Development of additive technologies is the most important component of industrial policy». In particular, she told about general advantages and unique possibilities of additive technologies, but also about an experience of these technologies application in aerospace industry abroad. Furthermore, Olga Ospennikova touched upon subjects of organization of additive production branch in Russia.
Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Igor’ P. Popov made the report «Investigation and development of experimental manufacturing technologies of light welded constructions from sheets of advanced aluminum alloys with required crystallographic structure for space transport systems».
Candidate of Engineering Sciences Mikhail V. Grigor’ev (N.E. Bauman State Technology University) highlighted the subject of present state and perspectives of development of welding technologies and means for diagnostics in aerospace branch.
Representative of JSC «NIAT» Ruslan K. Khozhatov told about technological methods how to reduce a porosity of weld when welding of aluminum alloys.
Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Valentin A. Kazakov from the publishing house «Technology of mechanical engineering» prepared the report « State and perspectives of development of welding production for defense-industry- complex».
«The used and advanced laser technologies in aerospace branch» is the theme of the report made by a scientific worker of LLC «Laser technological center», professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Anatoly N. Grezev.
A representative of LLC«Меlitek» Konstantin N. Astakhov told about examples of application of Walter+Bai AG and RUMUL AG (Switzerland) equipment for testing of welded joints.
Candidate of Engineering Sciences Vladimir M. Bychkov (Ufa State Aviation Technical University) prepared the report «Local electron-beam heat-treatment of welded joints of GTE rotor discs from titanium alloy VT 8-1».
Alexander V. Gerasimenko from JSC «NIAT» told the participants about manufacture of high-effective titanium structures of beam type using electron-beam welding.
Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Alexander V. Ovchinnikov (Zaporozh’e national technical university) in his report considered the item of restoration GTE rotor parts from titanium alloys by welding methods using modified sub-microcrystal additional materials.
Dmitry A.Gutorov from representative office « POLYSOUDE» (France) made a report «Welding equipment and technologies of POLYSOUDE S.A.S. and GLOBAL BEAM TECHNOLOGIES AG companies: application of the equipment at aerospace industry enterprises».
Then the conference continued its work against two sections.
Section №1
«Argon-arc welding of structural materials»
Specialist of FSUE Central Research Institute of Structural Materials "PROMETEY "Sergey A. Zykov presented a comparative analysis of aluminum-magnesium alloys welded joints, carried out with nonconsumable and consumable electrode.
Representative of SC «Motor Sich» Alexander G. Seliverstov made a report « Influence of welding method on structure and mechanical properties of welded joints of heat-resistant titanium alloys with different initial structural state».
Employee of FSUE «Technomash» Sergey Chichkov reported about special welding heads for orbital welding of non-reversing conduit joints in rocket-space branch.
One more employee of SC «Motor Sich » Doctor of Technical Sciences Igor A. Petrik shared his experience of implementation of orbital welding at manufacture and repair of thin-walled conduits.
«Application of solutions in electron microscopy for study of welding joints» is the theme of Anna M.Sedykh report from LLC «Melitek».
Employee of LLC «Experimental plant «Avial’» Stanislav O.Ponomaryov told about up-to-date technologies of aluminum welding wire production.
Vera G.Koval’chuk from VIAM made a report « Welding of heat-resistant nickel alloy VZh171, hardened with internal nitriding».
Representative of VIAM Mikhail D. Panteleev prepared the report «Study of influence of heat treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of welded joints of high-strength aluminum-lithium alloys».
Candidate of Technical Sciences Alexander Yu. Medvedev (Ufa State Aviation Technical University) made the report “Linear friction welding of blisc structures from aluminum alloys».

«Modern methods of structural materials welding»
Vladimir V.Kovalyov from FSUE “Gas-Turbine Engineering RPC “Salut” presented the report «Joining of steel with aluminum and aluminum alloys in liquid phase».
Candidate of Engineering Sciences Alexander G.Malikov (Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics SB RAS) told about investigation of laser technology welding of 1424 aluminum alloy.
Representative of JSC «VILS» Pavel Yu. Predko reported about perspectives of cast-welded structures manufacture from Al–Mg–Sc system alloys using FSW.
Denis N. Kuritsin (VNIIALMAZ OJSC) made the report «Instrument for friction stir welding».
Representative from FSUE «Gas-turbine engines research and production center «Salut» Candidate of Technical Sciences Vladimir V. Isakov threw light on peculiar features of laser welding with additive wire.
«Peculiarities of FSW application for joining of magnesium alloys, manufactured by methods of ingot and granular metallurgy » is the theme of the report of professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Valentin Yu. Konkevich (JSC«VILS»).
Mikhail A. Ivanov from JSC «NIАТ» prepared the report «Brazing with high-temperature solder of conduits from 12Х18Н10Тsteel in protective atmosphere using local induction heating».
Specialist of JSC «Cheboksary enterprise Sespel» Pyotr A. Vasilev told the participants about implementation of technology of friction stir welding in full-scale production of large size articles from aluminum alloys.
Representative of VIAM Alexey A.Skupov in his report told about a development of the technology of friction stir welding of high-strength aluminum-lithium alloys V-1461, V-1469.
Candidate of Engineering Sciences Boris R. Ryabichenko (JSC «NIKIMT-Atomstroy») told about equipment for welding offered by JSC «NIKIMT-Atomstroy».
Participants of the conference expressed their gratitude to VIAM for excellent organization of the event. According to general opinion the presented reports raised a kin interest owing to scientific novelty and practical significance. Besides, many noted, that regular holding of similar subject conferences has a considerable meaning for applied investigations in the field of fusion welding methods.
