The delegation of the United Engine Corporation (UEC) headed by Vladislav E. Masalov, Director General, visited the All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) on January 22, 2014.
During the visit, the guests got acquainted with experimental and production base of the institute, in particular with the laboratory of chemical express-analysis of heat-resistant alloys, complexes for high-temperature and fatigue tests, casting of single-crystal blades for GTE and GTU, heat treatment, production of powder solders, ceramic composite materials and anti-oxidizing coatings.
Besides that, the representatives of UEC visited workshops for ion-plasma coatings, certified production of cast rod billets and isothermal forging of heat-resistant alloys and production of precision prepregs.
A joint meeting devoted to cooperation in the field of development and mastering of new materials and technologies for advanced engines was held in frames of the visit.
Academician Evgeny N. Kablov, Director General of VIAM, noted: «VIAM has carried out a large complex of works on preservation and development of the competence of the Russian Federation in the field of creation of new materials and technologies for aviation engine building». According to Evgeny Kablov, the institute possesses up-to-date certified small-scale production bays allowing deliveries of various materials for successful implementation of highly important state programs, in particular to produce advanced engines (PD-14).
Moreover, Director General of VIAM informed the guest about prospective developments of the institute and strategic directions of the development of materials and technologies for their processing for the period up to 2030 approved by the Scientific and Technical Council under Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation.
Following the results of the meeting, the Parties stated that one of the priority directions in production of gas turbine engines is creation and commercialization of intermetallic titanium alloys and additive technologies intended for manufacturing of GTE components.
